New Chapter of Life Beta Sigma Phi

New to town, need time away from the kids, newly retired, need to feel uplifted, need more support in your life? If you are a woman of any age who desires any of the above then the answer may be to join a chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International.

This group was organized in 1931 with Helen Pepper, the first member to be pledged still a member. The ceremony was held at the Sunflower Hotel in Abilene, Kansas.

Ironically it was a man, Walter W. Ross who decided that there should be an association of women that could offer each other friendships in a social, cultural and educational atmosphere not available during the great depression.

The organization quickly grew and soon they began to help others selling $22 million in war bonds during the war. In the fifties grand balls and elegant teas were held, in the sixties and beyond it has become less formal but the ideals have remained constant.

Today, membership is over 170,000 world wide with chapters determining their own service projects for their communities that includes donations of millions toward health research, hunger projects, scholarship and disaster funds.

Locally, Beta Sigma Phi has offered scholarships, donates boxes of toiletries for senior homes, decorates the Senior’s Drop In Centre, campaigns for cancer, and members volunteer for a myriad of causes.

Twice a year chapters join together with members from all over to celebrate Founder’s Day in April and Rituals in November to install new members or bring existing members to a higher level within the organization.

The long awaited BSP bowling results are here. Congratulations goes out to our high scoring team - Big G and the Gang with 415! This consisted of Gary and Nanci Peters, Joe, and Buckeye alias Brandon (?). They will receive the $20 gift card to Cold Stone. This bumped the Esquenazis out of top score by 1 point. The competition was grueling.

Jerry Esquenazi showed he knows his way around an alley with a top individual score of 165, so he will receive a $10 gift card to Cold Stone!

Our very own Jenny Rada gave it her best, and if it were opposite day, she would have scored the best with a whopping 59, so she will receive a $5 gift card for effort!

Congratulations to everyone. We hope you had a great time and we appreciate everyone coming out to go bowling with Beta Sigma Phi's Lambda Beta Chapter.
